CELEBRATING SPEED'S LIFE
When I first saw you working a crime scene
Your quick sarcasm made me think you mean
But I soon realized it was part of your charming wit
And if the moment required it, you could also be sweet.
And when you helped save people from a fire
In that club where things went suddenly haywire
I learned you could also be brave...
Even if you couldn’t always behave!
Thus my favourite you became
Even before I had caught your name.
And even the slightest trait,
Like that easy relaxed gait
That made you look so sexy when you walked,
Or the way you breathed in while you talked,
Or the way only your lower lip moved when you spoke
And the fact that you never laughed when telling a joke,
Or the way you used to repeatedly blink your eyes
Made you somehow deeply special among all the CSIs.
The way you used to squint
When looking at some print,
And those dark long eyelashes
That dazzled me more than your camera flashes,
Or the fact that you always kept so serious
Made you look so magnetically mysterious.
And not even your scruffy hair
Or the unbuttoned cuffs on the untucked shirts you used to wear,
Or that permanent stubble on your face
Perhaps not so appropriate for your workplace,
That sometimes made you look just a little bit sad
As if you’d just got out of bed,
Made you any less attractive
From my personal perspective.
And even if sometimes you were a bit of a slob
You made up for it by being great at your job.
When you impatiently tapped your feet
While waiting for some database hit
You reminded me of a mischievous child
Irreverently but adorably wild,
Who sometimes needed to be guided
And occasionally even chided.
But even if sometimes a request for assistance would make you pout,
In the end you always generously helped out.
And that’s why now that you’re gone
For me there seems to be no dawn
To bring me back your powerful light
And put an end to my endless night.
I'll start with the ones I like a little less, so my favourites will end up on top.
I believe this one was the last I wrote. After writing a few about Speedle's death, I felt it made sense to write one that would celebrate the character's life.
I tried to recall and summarize all the little idiosyncrasies and moments that captivated me.
