TO A HERO FALLEN BUT NOT FORGOTTEN

Sad was the day when I saw my hero fall
And his red noble blood trickle down his cheek.
He was wounded so bad that he could hardly speak
But I still hoped that he would heed my call.

Fighting for his life, he said he could not feel.
Never before had I heard true fear
In the voice of the CSI that I still hold most dear
And that's when I knew my hero would not heal.

Why did you behave like some reckless little boy?
I know you were always so busy
But saving your life would have been so easy
Why did you treat your gun like it was some kind of toy?

And why didn't the world stop going round
And why didn't the stars fall down
To make my hero a fitting crown
And to honour his body on the ground
When his heart ceased to beat
And my hero lay dead at my feet?

After I wrote the Goodbye Poem For Speed and got a few nice comments, I felt it wasn't the best I could do, and tried to write one that would better convey my emotions at the time.
It's my favourite of the collection. Not only was it the one that elicited the greatest amount of emotional responses when I posted it on CBS's forum for the show (some people said they cried or were about to), but it was also the one that better captured my own emotional response to the character's death.
